Q1. Give the introduction of computer graphics?

Ans. The computer has become a powerful tool for the rapid and economical production of pictures. Today, we find computer graphics used routinely in such diverse areas as science, engineering, medicine, business, industries, government, public utility offices, entertainment, advertising, education, and training.
There are many application of computer graphics in simulations, education, and graph presentation.

Q2. Discuss the types of computer graphics?

Ans. There are two types of computer graphics :
(a) Raster Graphics: It is a dot matrix data structure representing a generally rectangular grid of pixels, or point of color viewable via a mΓ²nitor, paper or other display medium.

(b) Vector Graphics: Vector graphics is the use of geometrical primitives such as points, lines, curves, and polygons to represent the image in computer graphics.

Q3. What is a pixel? Explain the different characteristics of a pixel?

Ans. The pixel is an abbreviation of the term 'picture element'. A pixel is the smallest picture element of a digital image. A monochrome pixel can have two values, black or white/0 or 1. Colour and grey scale require more bits; true color, displaying approximately 16.7 million colors, requires 24 bits for each pixel.

Characteristics of a Pixel:

A pixel may have more data than the eye can perceive at one time. Each pixel has a numerical value that corresponds to a color or grey scale value. A pixel has no absolute size, i.e. pixels may (sometimes, NOT always) have a spatial value that provides information about the size of the objects in the image.

Q4. Classification of application development of hardware and software for computer graphics? or Application of Computer Graphics?

Ans. Computer graphics is one of the most exciting and rapidly growing computer fields. The computer has become a powerful tool for the rapid and economical production of pictures.

Application of Computer Graphics

1. Computer-Aided Design:

The major use of computer graphics is in the design process particularly for engineering and architectural system, mostly all products are now computer designed. Generally referred to as CAD, computer-aided design methods are now most widely used in the design of buildings, automobiles, aircraft, watercraft, spacecraft and many other products.

2. Presentation Graphics:

Another major application area is presentation graphics, used to produce illustrations for reports or to generate 35-mm slides or transparencies for use with projects. Presentation graphics are commonly used to summarise financial, statistical, mathematical, and economic data for research reports.

3. Computer Art:

The computer graphics method is widely used in both fine art and commercial art applications. Artists use a variety of computer methods, including special-purpose hardware, artist's paintbrush programs; symbolic mathematical package, CAD package, and animation packages that provides facilities for designing object shapes and specifying object motion.

4. Entertainment:

Computer graphics is now commonly used in making motion pictures, music video, and television show. Sometimes the graphics scene is displayed by themselves and sometimes graphics objects are combined with the actors and live scene. Many TV series regularly employ computer graphics methods.

5. Education and Training:

The computer-generated model of a physical, financial, and economical system is often used as educational aids. Models of physical systems, physiological systems, population trends, or equipment can help trainees to understand the operation of the system. For some training applications, special systems are designed.
